When Emilija arrived that day she was fast asleep, so we gave her a while to wake up and come around to the idea of having her photo taken. It didn’t take her long before she was full of smiles!
I start all of my Cake Smash sessions off with portraits of your little one, to capture those timeless images of them, which will last a lifetime. They’re perfect to look back and remember their tiny little faces, just before their 1st Birthday.
We then add in some decorations and then introduce the cake. This can be a little daunting at first as they’re being encouraged to do something they’re usually told off for, but with a little time some babies dive right in. Emilija on the other hand wasn’t at all interested in the cake, she just wanted her mommy’s milk and to practice her crawling.
My sessions are completely baby led and I believe if you want it to be an enjoyable experience it needs to be that way. As parents we know that, especially at that age if they don’t want to do something they aren’t going to do it and repeatedly trying is going to upset them - and we definitely don’t want that! Especially when we are taking pictures. So to tackle this we go at their pace. Sure, it takes longer but we want them to have fun.
We established quite quickly that Emilija wasn’t fussed at all about this gorgeous cake she had been presented with and that’s ok! We moved on to the splash part of the session, I find that this is where we get the best smiles from little ones and it was definitely the case with Emilija. This was her favourite part of her cake smash session.
I can’t wait to see her gorgeous images printed, what a perfect gift for her birthday!
Here are a few images from her session -
