As a children’s photographer I mostly photograph younger children such as sitters, 1st birthday milestones cake smashes and newborn photography sessions. So when I’m contacted and asked to photograph an older child I’m always excited! I find as a photographer I have a lot more freedom and control with their session, in the sense that when you ask an older child to do something they can actually understand you and you can work together to make something beautiful. Unlike working with toddlers who just want to play peekaboo and hear you sing their favourite songs.
When Taylor turned up with her gorgeous mom Megan and bags full of dresses I knew we were going to have a great time. Taylor had spent the morning sorting through her wardrobe finding out which outfits she wanted to wear for her session.
They also brought the youngest addition to their family with them too, Aurora who I photographed as a newborn baby when she was just a few weeks old! Of course with a little lady so cute and new sitter outfits to try from Cotton and Twine props I could resist taking a few portraits of Aurora too.
Once Taylor had decided which outfit she wanted to start with we jumped straight in and she was a complete natural! She listened to my instructions and remembered every little thing I asked of her. Once we had finished out first set up she got changed and we started over and without any prompting she had taken all of my previous instructions and posed herself perfectly! She was a complete dream to work with.
After we finished Taylors portrait session I decided we should take some sibling shots of Megan’s girls together as of course it would be rude not to, especially when they’re both incredibly gorgeous!
